Our Installation Standards & Workmanship Guarantee

We don’t just install siding — we install it the right way. Our strict workmanship standards ensure long-term durability, moisture protection, and a clean, professional finish on every project.

1. Horizontal Siding Installation Standards

  • Stud-Fastened Installation: All horizontal siding is securely nailed directly into the house framing/studs — never just into sheathing — for maximum strength and structural integrity.
  • Mandatory 6” Joint Flashing: Every siding seam/joint is protected with a minimum 6” joint flashing to prevent water penetration.
  • No Seams on Short Walls: No siding seams are installed on walls less than 12 feet in length to maintain a clean, seamless appearance.
  • Proper Seam Spacing: All seams are installed at least 24” apart from one another to ensure structural performance and balanced aesthetics.
  • Staggered Seams: Siding joints are always staggered with at least two full siding courses between seams for improved strength and a professional finish.

2. Penetrations & Mounting Standards

Exterior penetrations are common leak points — that’s why we treat them with extra care.

  • Sturdy Mount Blocks with Z-Flashing: All lights, plugs, vents, and exterior fixtures are mounted on durable Sturdy Mount blocks with proper Z-flashing installed above to prevent water intrusion.
  • Gas Lines & Mechanical Penetrations: Split Sturdy Mounts or custom-cut trim boards are installed around gas lines, sump pump discharges, and similar penetrations where applicable for a clean and secure finish.
  • Custom Metal Solutions: Where space is limited (behind pipes, electric meters, fence posts, etc.), colour-matched flat metal sheets are professionally modified and installed to ensure protection and visual consistency.
  • Vent Protection & Accessibility: All vents are installed on Sturdy Mount blocks to allow proper access and to prevent siding damage caused by condensation or ice buildup.

3. Trim, Transition & Corner Installation Standards

Attention to trim details makes the difference between average work and professional craftsmanship.

  • No Face Nailing: All outside corners, inside corners, opening trims, and transition trims are hung using flat tabs and corner tabs to eliminate visible face nailing and create a clean, high-end appearance.
  • Sealed Cut Ends: Every cut end is painted and sealed before installation to prevent moisture absorption and extend product life.

4. Fastening, Clearance & Flashing Requirements

To ensure long-term durability and moisture protection, we strictly follow proper fastening, spacing, and flashing guidelines for fibre cement siding installation.

  • Roof to Wall Clearance: Siding must be installed a minimum of 2” above shingles to prevent moisture absorption and allow proper drainage.
  • Above Horizontal Flashing: A minimum 1/4” gap is maintained above all horizontal flashing to ensure proper water runoff.
  • Kickout Flashing: A minimum 4” x 4” kickout flashing is installed where rooflines meet vertical walls to direct water into the gutter system.
  • Slabs, Paths, Steps & Decks: Siding is installed at least 2” above hard surfaces to prevent water wicking and premature deterioration.
  • Gutter to Siding Clearance: A minimum 1” gap is maintained between gutters and siding to avoid trapped moisture.
  • Mortar / Masonry Transitions: Proper L-flashing is installed between siding and masonry surfaces to protect against water intrusion.
  • Proper Fastening: All fasteners are corrosion-resistant and installed according to manufacturer specifications to ensure secure attachment and long-term performance. Stainless steel must be used on any pressure treated woods.
